Windows 95 Startup Graphic

Replace that Win95 logo on clouds background with this picture

picture of large outdoor Buddha statue

I can't remember for sure where I got this picture (I think it may have been the DharmaNet file archive). The statue is the great 11.4m tall Buddha statue at Kotokuin temple in Kamakura, Japan.

Rename your existing file c:\logo.sys (if you have one) to c:\logosys.old, download this 125k file logo.sys, and put this new file into c:\ to give you a replacement c:\logo.sys

Restart Win95 and you'll see a new startup picture! I can't see why it shouldn't work (it works for me) but if you have a problem then simply delete your new logo.sys and rename c:\logosys.old to c:\logo.sys

If you want to use a different picture, here's what to do:

You will have to use an image 720 x 400 pixels (width x height) or use an image near these proportions. Then resize it (don't crop it, squash it) to exactly 320 x 400 pixels (it will look squashed, don't worry!) and save it as a Windows bitmap type file with the name logo.sys, and then put it in your root directory as above. Use a program such as PaintShop Pro to manipulate your pictures.

Let me know if you find a better picture to use!

Spinning "Om Mani Padme Hum" Graphic

This one is from the Asian Classics Input Project CD.

It displays rotating 3D Tibetan script, saying, I think, the mantra "Om Mani Padme Hum".

Download this 22k file zip file mani.zip, unzip it and run it! It's a DOS program rather like the screensaver below.

An ASCII art image of Buddha!

Posted on a mailing-list: An ASCII art drawing of Buddha

Depending on your font and screen width this may come out well or it may be all jumbled up.
